Originality and being cool is ‘the’ thing when it comes to all the bboys. “I see bboying in everything,” says South Korean bboy Physicx, who has countless titles that put his name as one of the best bboys in the world. Currently a member of Rivers Crew, Physicx started bboying in 1996 after watching a TV show on bboying.
He says, “I got inspired and found it extremely interesting. Bbyoing in its true form, with its several elements was a huge draw for me and power moves of bbyoing were basically what pushed me to pick up this dance form.”
Born as Kim Hyo Keun, it seemed difficult for bboys and others from different countries to remember his name. Then after some time his brother helped him decide on a name that was easy to remember, spell and pronounce.
“I was looking for a cool name and one day my elder brother named me Physicx after seeing my moves because he thought they were as technical as physics,” he chuckles. Physicx creates his own moves and his trademark moves include haloback spin, flag spin, combo freeze. “Dancing means life to me. Half of my life I have just danced. Bboying has made my life wonderfully exciting and beautiful.”
Talking about how he joined Rivers Crew, he says that it’s quite funny because in the start as he used to battle Rivers Crew.
“In 2001, I was travelling to Seoul where I found them very friendly which made me change my mind and that led to me joining the crew. And now, it’s my family. In a field like ours, you need support from your crew to move ahead because recognition comes way later. And till then it’s your foster family and your support system,” he says.
Bboying has just started in India and Physicx feels that bboys here have a lot to learn from professional bboys to get their foundation right.
“It has to become more than a past time and a hobby. Young people need to join in and try a move or two and not just stand on the sidelines. It takes hours to get your moves right but when you do, it’s totally worth it!” he sums up.
