Not enough signboards for Chennai Central buses

Dearth of signboards at the Central station and the Government General Hos­pital (GH) bus stand causes a lot of inconvenience to those who visit Chennai as they are forced to waste a lot of time looking for the right place to board buses.

Commuters say that the signboards near the GH bus shelters do not serve any purpose.

“There are three shelters and we do not know where the buses stop. Elderly people who wait under one shelter are forced to run to board buses because of lack of proper signs,” said S. Sugan Raj, an engineer.

The situation at Central station is not much different as many visitors have a tough time finding the right place to board their bus.

“Such a big station has no visible map or sign to inform the people about the location of Park Station or about buses going towards Poonamalle.

Locals can manage but those who are new to the city are lost in the crowd without proper directions. I wasted half an hour seeking guidance from local people,” lamented T. Rajesh, a tourist from Delhi.

Many bus users suggested that care should be taken to check the insensitive billstickers.

“The authorities should make sure that once the signboards are placed, they are not defaced. Indis­criminate bill sticking has become a nuisance and they should be punished and it is very easy to identify them as they have left their phone numbers on the bills,” said A. Geetha Vani, a banker.
