Raipur, July 10: Chhattisgarh police has launched a probe to unearth the source of supply of arms and ammunitions to Maoists in the forests of the state, following recovery of live cartridges contained in the packets of branded products at the Maoist ambush site in Narayanpur district, in which 27 CRPF jawans were killed on June 29, highly placed police sources said here on Saturday.
A senior police officer probing the June 29 massacre disclosed to this newspaper that huge quantities of live and spent cartridges were found neatly packaged in packets of tea and spices of branded companies from the ambush site.
“All total 32 such packets containing the ammunitions were found scattered at the attack site”, the police officer said requesting anonymity. “Some packets found at the spot were still sealed, while a few others were partially filled with cartridges”, he revealed.
Meanwhile, four Naxals allegedly involved in the killing of 27 CRPF jawans on June 29, were on Saturday arrested by the police at Ekda in Narayanpur district, the police said.
“We laid a trap for them after getting tips that the ultras are coming to their hideout in Ekda forest. They were overpowered the moment stepped into the marked area”, the Narayanpur SP, Mr Rahul Bhagat, told this newspaper.
They confessed to their involvement in the ambush and killing of three villagers in the area.
