The CBI probe into the irregularities in the awarding of spectrum licences since 2001 has revealed that then communications minister late Pramod Mahajan had allegedly given irregular favours to the accused officials of the department of telecommunications (DoT). These officials are allegedly believed to have played crucial role in the allocation of additional spectrum during his tenure.
According to sources, the accused officials were given post-retirement benefits in the form of special appointments in the DoT.
The agency is set to mention it in its chargesheet which is expected to be filed by December 15.
“Probe by the agency has revealed that a high-ranking official, who had allegedly played crucial role in the allocation, was appointed as ‘administrator’, a post-equivalent to secretary-level in the Central government, in the DoT after his retirement. This appointment was cleared by the then communications minister late Pramod Mahajan,” sources said.

Four persons accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case moved the SC on Monday challenging the order of its special bench, dealing with cases pertaining to the multi-crore scam, which had stayed all proceedings related to the case in the Delhi high court saying only the top court had the authority to deal with them. Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka and directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd Asif Balwa and Rajiv Aggarwal sought a stay on the April 11, 2011 and November 9, 2012 orders of the special bench headed by Justice G.S. Singhvi which had directed that no court other than the top court shall entertain any application relating to the case. The petition on their behalf was mentioned by senior advocates Ram Jethmalani and Rajeev Dhavan.
