A hotel in Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus has threatened Jennifer Lopez with a $40 million lawsuit after she cancelled a concert there for “political” reasons, press reports said on Sunday.
The chief executive of the Turkish company which runs the hotel and casino complex said Jennifer Lopez still had time to change her mind about the July 24 gig.
“The contract has not been terminated. If she does not show up for the concert, we will begin a procedure in the courts to claim $35-40 million in damages,” warned Murat Bozoglu, speaking from the company’s headquarters in Istanbul.
“The cancellation....is not covered by any clause in the contract she signed with us,” said Murat Bozoglu.
Lopez drew the wrath of Greek-Cypriots in the southern half of the divided island after the new Cratos Premium hotel and casino complex announced the singer would perform there on her 41st birthday.

Video by Ledger to be released
London: A music video directed by Hollywood star Heath Ledger, his last work before his sudden death two years ago, is ready for it’s official release.
The Brokeback Mountain star filmed the video for rapper N’FA’s single Cause An Effect shortly before he died from an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January 2008.
The pair had planned to release the track together, but the rapper held back from promoting the song as a sign of respect after the tragic passing of his childhood friend, reported Daily Star online.
Footage from the video hit the web in 2009 and now Ledger’s family has urged N’FA to share the project, insisting it’s what the late star would have wanted.
“We had intended on releasing it a long, long time ago. But I didn’t feel comfortable doing so after Heath died. But friends and his family said it needed to be seen. Heath loved it,” said the rapper.
Ledger shot the footage with a single camera in the garage at his Sydney home.
