When is the next Doomsday?

The supposed Doomsday just went right past. It was an ordinary day and everyone went around their usual business. Maybe, some optimists were hopeful a meteor may strike some part of the world and they can finally prove it to the naysayers that apocalypse is finally here! But you know what they say?

Hope lives eternally in the human heart. Now, the new Doomsday date is January 1, 2017. Some people never give up, do they?
However morbid it may be, several youngsters in Bengaluru made hay while the sun shone. Theme parties, outings, bucket lists and more! It was almost like everyone challenged the order of the day. Content writer Sandeep S. says, “I actually listened to all my favourite songs from the time I remember to now. I plugged them onto my iPod and thought, ‘if I were to die now, atleast I’d be happy listening to all the music that has made me who I am’.” A tad philosophical no doubt, but there were some others who seriously enjoyed the day to the hilt. Aditi Priyadarshini, a freelance photographer wrote on her Facebook wall, “I decided to eat my favourite ice-cream, hug my loved ones, watch The Gods Must Be Crazy one last time and more importantly, buy myself a nice coat and a pair of Converse because if I die, I’d like to die in style.” For some others, it was about taking the centrestage one last time, if at all. Huzefa Murtaza, a student says, “I was partying hard with friends at a theme party. There was even a countdown at midnight. It was so funny and everyone was laughing their guts out. Obviously, nothing happened, except laser lights that literally blinded us for a while.”
Whatever be the case, here we are, almost a week after the apocalypse scare. Even as social networking sites are choking up with new dates, the reaction is pretty deadpan. “Dude, you can’t pull off the same joke twice!” remarks accounts graduate Sneha Cherian. “Even if the frenzy gets as much 2017, we supposedly have four years. I have a lot of plans till then like get married and travel the world,” she adds with a grin. “Another doomsday, another party. Awesome!” says publicist Ratan George. “Not that I believed anything would happen but it’s an excuse for a party again, so bring it on!” So Mayans, what were you hoping to prove?
