The state government on Wednesday put its foot down on the issue of height of the ambitious 22 km long Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) had raised objections and had asked the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to increase the height to 51 meters due to its upcoming terminal.
In a meeting held between MMRDA and ministry of shipping officials in New Delhi on Wednesday, the MMRDA officials conveyed that no way was it possible for the development authority to increase the height as asked by the JNPT for a span of 300 metres.
“MTHL plan has been there for years now and at the last minute it cannot be changed. Thus, the JNPT will have to modify its terminal design,” informed sources.
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan too had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conveying the issue.
