Several members of the Indian cricket team have come forward to show sympathy towards the family of the Delhi gangrape victim, who died in a Singapore hospital on Saturday. The team members have expressed shock and anguish on the social networking sites.
India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh even dedicated his man of the match award (won against England in the first Twenty20 played in Pune on December 20) to the victim.
Yuvraj’s father Yograj Singh believes it is a wake-up call for everyone. “Be it my son or anyone, dedicating the knock or the man of the match award to the victim is not enough.
“The nation should be ashamed of such incidents. It is a wake-up call for politicians and everyone else. We must protect the women of this country. The attitude towards women should change. We should respect them and everyone should look after themselves to avoid such incidents.”
Yograj, a former India crickter himself, was not present in Pune nor at Ahmedabad, where Yuvi again, claimed the man of the match against Pakistan on Friday night.
“It is not the first time my son has played a super innings for the nation. He has played many match-winnings knocks and I don’t go to watch all of his matches. He is wise enough to look after himself. I am busy in my own shooting career,” he said.
