Pretty women are putting their best “leg” forward. Following Angelina Jolie’s famous leg act, it seems the thigh high slit trend is gaining popularity not just in the West but in Bollywood as well. International designers have taken this fashion statement to another level with double thigh high slits during the SS 2013 runways recently.
Fashion designer Sunita Shankar says that the trend is only picking up not just in B-town but also in the city. “I believe Sonam Kapoor carries a high slit very elegantly. High slit can look good on anyone as long as one has a shapely pair of legs. It is a very smart dress and during winters it can be paired up with bold colour tights,” says Sunita.
Designer Rick Roy says that the style works wonder on fitted silhouettes. “The garment allows free movements since one can find enough room to move around wearing high slits. But with time, this utility-based idea has changed into a fashion statement. The cut with flares will give a loose fit look to the garment. To make a strong and bold statement with high slits one should go for tight fit only,” he adds.
Priyanka Chopra, Malaika Arora Khan, Deepika Padukone, Neha Dhupia, Sushmita Sen, Karishma Kapoor, Lisa Haydon and Freida Pinto are some of the few who have experimented with thigh high slits. Sunita adds, “Usually women think this style is for tall women. I disagree to this. Indian girls on an average are not short. It’s one of the fashion statements that anyone can make as long as you have the confidence to carry it off.”
Model Nayanika Chatterjee says that the Indian women are finally opening up to make bold statements with high thigh slits. “Till a few years back not many Bollywood actresses would like to flaunt high slits. But things are changing now. Be it films, movie promotions or award functions, high slits have found their place in Indian fashion scene,” says Noyonika.
