After introducing academic audit at the universities and general degree colleges, the West Bengal State Council for Secondary Education (WBUT) is conducting inspections of self-funded institutes affiliated to them to eliminate dubious claims and to improve quality. As many as 216 colleges or institutes would be inspected over two phases and is set to be completed by April.
“The inspection is being conducted on the basis of six parameters to assess the quality and validity of claims advertised or made by private institutes,” said WBSCHE vice-chairman Abhijit Chakrabarti.
The parameters include governance, budget, human resources, teaching-learning, consultancy and research and supplementary programmes for staff. All these parameters would be thoroughly checked to ensure transparency and curtail any sort of corruption or false claims, Prof Chakrabarti explained. “The inspections are being conducted by 80 teams. The members are academicians from various state-aided universities. It is scheduled to be completed by April next year,” WBUT vice-chancellor Samir Kumar Bandopadhyay said. Prof Bandhopadhyay also informed that the decision of inspection was taken after several complaints were received.
