All-round wrath raged against noted author and sociologist Ashis Nandy for his remarks that people belonging to the OBCs, SCs and STs are the “most corrupt”. As he made the statement at the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival, legal action has also been initiated with the police in Jaipur registering an FIR against him under IPC Sec. 506 (criminal intimidation) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The police said Mr Rajpal Meena, chairperson of the SC/ST Rajasthan Manch, filed an FIR against Mr Nandy and the matter is being investigated.
Participating in one of the sessions at the festival, Mr Nandy said, “It is a fact that most of the corrupt come from OBCs and Scheduled Castes, and now increasingly the Scheduled Tribes.”
BSP chief Mayawati and LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan demanded the registration of a case.

Karnataka gov: no floor test for cm, for now

Karnataka governor H.R. Bhardwaj said on Saturday that chief minister Jagadish Shettar’s BJP government, on the edge of a precipice following the decision of 13 rebel legislators to resign, need not face a trial of strength on the Assembly floor as yet.
The governor said “there is no constitutional crisis in the state at present. So, there is no need to direct the CM to face a floor test in the Assembly... But if Mr Shettar’s government falls short of majority even by one MLA, I will ask him to face a floor test.”
