In a startling revelation, Indian Mujahideen operative Danish Ansari revealed during custodial interrogation that Nepal is now the biggest hub for IM operatives. From there, he claimed, they were running one of the biggest networks pumping fake currency into India under the direct supervision of IM boss Yasin Bhatkal.
Ansari was picked up by the NIA a week ago from Darbhanga, Bihar, and is being considered a prize catch given his close proximity to Bhatkal.
Ansari was on the intelligence agencies’ radar after a major crackdown on what is now known as the IM’s Darbhanga module, in which 13 operatives, including a Pakistani national, have been arrested so far.
Ansari said top IM cadres had shifted base to Nepal and were operating from hideouts near the Indo-Nepal border.
Sources said Danish Ansari disclosed that following a crackdown almost all major IM cadre has shifted base to Nepal and are operating out of hideouts close to the India-Nepal border. These IM operatives, investigative sources added, have been instructed by Pakistan’s ISI to start focusing on large-scale smuggling of fake Indian currency now. This information could prove to be useful for the NIA as it is already investigating some important cases of fake currency smuggling.
While giving details about Yasin Bhatkal’s movements, the IM operative claims that he keep shuttling between Nepal and Bangladesh. Ansari also admitted that following the crackdown IM is finding it difficult to regroup due to which its subversive activities in the country have taken a hit. He, sources added, claimed that IM was under tremendous pressure from ISI to step up their activities.
Intelligence agencies feel that following the tension along the border in wake of mutilation of Indian soldiers the ISI will now try and shift focus by spreading terror activities in different parts of Indian.
Thus, some of the information given by Ansari could prove extremely useful for Indian agencies.
