Freeze today for women’s safety

Freezing for a moment can change the life of a woman. That is the idea behind Jo Mera Hai Wo Mera Hai (My Body My Rights), the freeze mob being organised by The Education Tree (ET), a group of city youngsters. They will “freeze” at DLF Saket to attract the attention of the audience and spread awareness about woman-safety.

“After the recent gang rape in the city, we initiated the campaign, Jo Mera Hai Wo Mera Hai, as we believe the most important part of education imparted should be about respecting women and their safety. We keep employing different means like freeze mobs, flash mobs, graffiti, chalk art, street dancing among others for this cause,” says Kunal Arora, organiser of the event and the member of the core team of ET.
The whole idea is to spread awareness without causing a chaos at public places. “We are not planning any rally, march or shouting slogans. We want to be more pragmatic in our approach and do something meaningful. So, it’s going to be a silent freeze mob. People around know the cause, so we just plan to take it a step forward,” says Smriti Singhal, one of the organisers and a former DU student.
Kunal Katyal, a second year student of Khalsa College, Delhi University has been a part of the campaign since he joined the college. He shares, “Being a student and simultaneously working for a cause like this is a satisfying experience. There will be placards and posters with slogans like ‘I pledge to intervene when I see a women being harassed’ or ‘Ladki tere baap ki jaagir nahi (A girl is not your personal property)’, ‘Don’t change your profile picture (Facebook) change yourself’ to convey the appropriate messages.”
