Novel idea for hectic Delhi

In the city of 16 million and rising, where local dwellers feel just as alienated and detached as outsiders, two childhood friends decided to bring this subject up in the virtual world through their graphic novel. Meet Aazar Anis, an advertising professional, and Arjun Jassal, an entrepreneur, who utilised the power of words and Instagram application to create their first online graphic novel Delhi Hectic.

Everything about Delhi has suddenly become too bourgeois and there is no sense of belonging for even those who have lived here for many years, feels Arjun Jassal, the co-creator of the novel. He says, “We initially wanted to do a published version of this idea but unfortunately our designer left for Kolkata and we were stuck. Then we thought of using our phone pictures from Instagram and did a collage of 10-12 slides in each chapter. The response from the five chapters that we have realised so far is phenomenal. In coming weeks we will be releasing the rest, and if everything goes well we might even get it published soon.”
The duo worked on this idea for six months, and came up with this first-of-its-kind online read that cynically laughs at the soul of Delhi. Aazar Anis, who co-worked on Delhi Hectic, says, “We picked out everyday instances that most of us could relate to. From attending a pretentious social party to exploring the historically rich yet ignored monuments of Delhi, we both jotted down our experiences in the capital through pictures. In a month we have received around 5,500 clicks and people are sharing it on the online space.”
