Priority to piped water scheme

Rajahmundri: The protected water supplies under the comprehensive piped water (CPW) scheme is being given top priority by zilla parishad in East Godavari as part of extension of the facility to all rural areas.
Though paucity of funds delayed the execution of works by the implementing agency, the RWS department, the ZP authorities pooled the funds required to complete the works at a faster pace in the present financial year 2012-13 itself to meet the drinking water needs during summer.
Under this programme works worth Rs 15 crore were cleared and out of this, in total 31 works at a cost of Rs 5.23 crore, are at various stages of completion. The major works among these are Katreni-kona and Komarada in Konaseema area at a total expenditure of Rs 58 lakh.
Among the other major works under the CPW scheme are the Kadiyam scheme at a cost of rs 92 lakh and the Gudimellan-ka with Rs 52 lakh in the district. In addition to these the Nagulapalli scheme was taken up at a cost of Rs 59 lakh.
Apart from these, three projects were taken up with the extended financial assistance of Rs 1.51 crore under Satya Sai Water Schemes in Sitanagaram, Devipatnam and Y. Ramavaram mandals. Of these three two schemes falls under East Godavari Agency.
In addition to these, the ZP has allotted 9 per cent of budgetary allocation in the present financial year of 2012-13 for the execution of pending minor water projects worth Rs 1.54 crore in the district.
The East Godavari ZP chief executive officer (CEO), Dr. Kora Jayaraj, has said that as per the budgetary allocations the works taken up are at various stages of completion. “We have initiated measures to complete these at faster pace before the summer starts in all the 25 mandals in the district where the works were taken up,” the CEO disclosed.
