[1]Thiruvananthapuram: As a national policy, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) would ask engineering colleges to reorient their courses in a way that they raised career prospects.
So, while colleges apply for more than one new course or for an increase in the intake of students in more than one course at post graduate level in Computer Science and Information Technology, they should give subjects like cyber security, information and cyber welfare, bio metric and cyber technology and Information Technology as a second option.
Accordingly, amendments have been made to the guidelines for starting new courses and increasing the intake for the existing courses.
The AICTE has also extended the last date for submitting applications for starting new courses and increasing the intake for the existing courses to January 15. Applications thereafter would be accepted with a fine, but only till February 15. Earlier, the state-level directorate of technical education had realised that B. Tech courses in applied electronics and information technology attracted lower number of students. Hence, it decided to allow self-financing colleges offering these courses to switch over to other innovative or conventional programmes.
