The house of gangrape accused Ram Singh at his ancestral village of Kalladah, under Karauli district in Rajasthan, wore a deserted look as his mother and uncle Mangilal moved to Delhi only a fortnight ago. His brother Mukesh is also languishing in Tihar Jail for his alleged involvement in the gangrape.
Located five km from the district headquarters of Karauli, the thatched house is locked as the family is going through a hard time, said a local resident over phone from Karauli. An Indica car with a Delhi number plate and a scooty are parked in the limits of the house.
According to villagers, Ram Singh’s mother Kalyani and uncle Mangilal left for Delhi 15 days ago. They said the family members kept to themselves after the gangrape incident and spent more time in Delhi, but his mother Kalyani and his uncle used to visit the house once in a while to look after the small patch of land.
The villagers said Ram Singh’s father Panchya shifted to Delhi years ago and married Kalyani in Delhi.
According to local residents, Panchya is no more and his younger brother Mangilal is acting as the family head. The villagers did not show interest in Ram Singh’s death and some even said he had no future left.
According to the family’s ration card in Karauli, Panchya and Kalyani have five sons; Raju the eldest, Ram Singh the third and Mukesh Singh the youngest.
Mangilal is unmarried. Ram Singh’s three other brothers Raju, Maddu and Suresh have also been living in Delhi.
