With no sign of the teachers’ agitation getting resolved anytime soon, the state government has issued a resolution asking all universities to make use of question papers prepared last year in order to conduct the exams. The order was issued in view of the boycott called by university and college teachers, which has left colleges without any question papers. The agitating teachers have refused to prepare question papers as a result of which the Board of Examination (BoE) is left without manuscripts of question papers.
Teachers have boycotted all examination duties, which includes preparing question papers. As per the process, the BoE gets three teachers of each subject to make question papers and submit them to the University. The BoE then decides on which question paper will be used. This ensures that the question papers do not get leaked.
However, this year, as teachers have not submitted any question papers, the BoE has nothing to choose from. Keeping this predicament in mind, the state government has in its order asked the colleges to refer to the question paper banks of the previous years and use them.
The state, through this GR, has also asked the university to get contractual, temporary and retired teachers to evaluate and assess the exam answersheets. Non-teaching staff, contractual teachers, and unemployed PhD holders can be assigned supervision duty at examination centres.
The GR further stated, “It is likely that a large number of students would be affected by this chaos and due to the re-scheduling of exams. To avoid this, the state government has come out with alternatives to conduct exam, while the boycott continues.”
Senior senate member of MU and member of Buctu Madhu Paranjape said, “We have been fighting for over 10 years now and the state government is just taking us for granted. Hence, we took this move to boycott exam duty. It is a protest for our right.”
