Bright is right, swear stylish men

Who says men’s trousers adhere to a staid palette? They now come in a riot of colours — from leafy green to rusty red. The coloured jeans trend was first spotted on women last year, but increasingly even men are experimenting with shades. Bollywood actors Aamir Khan, Ayushmann Khurana, Akshay Kumar and others were recently spotted going all vibrant.

Be it Sunday brunches, private parties or red carpet events, city socialites and Bollywood stars are seen in coloured jeans/pants, which at once are quirky and stylish. As far as colours go, muted tones and self-prints are passé. Bright ochres, brick reds and lime greens are the shades to watch out for, as most experts suggest.
Talking about the trend, Bollywood actor Rajeev Khandelwal says, “This trend breaks the conventional image of a stereotypical man. If women wear black or grey (colours traditionally associated with men) trousers it is not considered macho, but when the reverse happens and men try and experiment with vibrant shades, adjectives like ‘effeminate’ get attached with them! I am open to wearing bright pants with a toned-down shirt so that one doesn’t end up looking like a fashion disaster.”
Sharing some tips about the trend, fashion designer Dev of the label Dev r Nil says, “It may look bright, but don’t fret over the look being too ‘club-like’ or ‘young’ before you experiment with this trend. For men who want to get started, this is the season for bold colours for them. So if it is a pair of olive green pants or burnt orange trousers that catch your fancy, go ahead and buy them. You can tone down the colour with something more sober like a white shirt on top.”
The trend is restricted not just to India. Globally too celebrities are spotted experimenting with shades. Zac Efron rocked burgundy and Russell Brand opted for red at recent events.
“While most men fear standing out because they’ve worn something very different from everyone else, it should not become a cause of worry anymore. The more adventurous they are, the more will people follow their sense of style and get rid of all their own wardrobe staples to make room for more fashion-forward clothes. There is no such colour that is Indian or non-Indian, garish or macho, ” says city-based fashion designer and socialite Arjun Kapoor.
So guys, time to throw away the boring black, grey and blue lowers. Add a flash of orange, green or yellow!
