A 49-year-old woman posed as a policewoman to trap a Daman-based man who was allegedly harassing her by making obscene phone calls. The victim laid a trap and nabbed the accused at Mumbai Central and handed him to the police. The accused was identified as Bhavanisingh Mulsingh Rajpurohit, 27.
The police said Ashalata Bajpayee (name changed) received a phone call from an unknown number.
The caller asked why she was frequently giving missed calls to him. She said she did not give missed calls. He later tried to befriend her, but she did not oblige. A day later he called again and used obscene language while talking to her. He also allegedly showed his desire to get physical with her. He gave her a couple of other cellphone numbers and told her that he is coming to Mumbai to meet her.
The victim then laid a trap and roped in two of her relatives. On Thursday, when Rajpurohit landed in the city, the woman with the help of her relatives caught hold of him and handed him over to the Agripada police station.
“We have arrested Rajpurohit under Section 354 (molestation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) under the IPC,” said an officer from Agripada police station.
His cellphone has been seized and we are trying to extract his call details, the officer added.
