Members of the zonal Investigating Agency (NIA) are hoping for an early breakthrough in the Bengaluru blasts after being given access to at least three sets of CCTV images from the blast site and surrounding areas late on Wednesday, which is expected to help identify the culprits behind the mid-morning blast in the city that injured 17 people, eight of whom were policemen assigned to election guard duty.
The team first seized the hard disk containing CCTV footage from the camera on top of the BJP office. By evening, they had also taken possession of CCTV recordings from an apartment complex situated right opposite the blast site was also taken over by the investigating agencies. Since the blast was triggered in a residential area, there were no surveillance cameras of traffic police in place, except for the traffic surveillance camera on Malleswaram 18th Cross junction, slightly ahead, which is expected to provide some clues. A senior police official said that the camera covered a wide area due to its location atop the building. “The verification of the CCTV footage is going on. We have to analyse every movement.”
