The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in a meeting with UPA chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, on Monday is believed to have discussed the possibility of introducing the Direct Taxes Code in the Monsoon session of Parli-ament. They are also unde-rstood to have reviewed the progress on implementing the Goods and Service Tax (GST) from April 1, 2011, sources said. The finance ministry has alrea-dy invited public comments twice on the draft DTC, which would replace the Income-Tax Act. “If Parliament clears the bill, it (DTC) will becomes a law and will be implemented from April 1, 2011,” revenue secretary Mr Sunil Mitra, had said.
