Investigators, who are probing the acid attack on a Delhi girl and hunting for the 25-year-old attacker, have now zeroed in on the 133 commuters of the same age who were found travelling in the same train. The Bandra government railway police managed to scan the list of passengers travelling on the Garib Rath on Thursday and is now doing a background check to get information that could lead them to the culprit.
On Thursday, 25-year-old Preeti Rathi was attacked by an unidentified person after she got off the train at Bandra terminus. She had come to the city, along with her father Amarsingh, uncle Vinod Kumar and aunt Sunita in the same train.
An officer privy to the investigation said, “The probe focused on checking the commuters list after the victim’s uncle told us that he had seen the suspicious person inside their coach, while the train was passing Surat on Friday. He was holding a plastic container. With the appr-oximate age of the attacker known to us, we have found 133 such commuters who were in the train.”
“We are also seeking details of some phone numbers, which were received by Rathi on and before the day of the attack,” another
officer said.
The police also showed CCTV grabs to the victim’s uncle, but the culprit could not be identified due to the poor quality of the footage. A team of GRP officials has been sent to Delhi to record statements of the victim’s mother and friends in search of clues in the case.
The victim started to communicate and narrate the horrific incident by scribbling on paper on Friday.
