A rainwater harvesting project at Shivaji Park— one of the MNS’ ambitious projects — was kick-started on Monday. The project has the capacity to store 20 crore litres of water, of which 14 crore litres can be made available for actual use. The cost of the project is `16 lakh. It was inaugurated by MNS chief Raj Thackeray who is the brain behind the project.
The project at Shivaji Park had become a bone of contention between the MNS and the Shiv Sena. Citing that the park in Dadar was part of the Costal Regulation Zone (CRZ) area, the BMC had denied permission to the MNS to set up the project
at the ground.
Local MNS corporator Sandeep Deshpande had sought a permission to carry out a survey to implement the rainwater harvesting system at the park. In a letter to the G/North ward office, he had also agreed to raise the required manpower and finance for setting up the system.
He also alleged that the Shiv Sena was opposing the project only because it wanted to deny credit to the MNS.
The Shiv Sena is struggling to retain its dominance in the area.

28 state police officers promoted to IPS

As many as 28 senior officers of Maharashtra, who had joined the police department through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), have been promoted and included into Indian Police Services by the ministry of home affairs.
They mainly include Sanjay Mohite, Dattatray Karale, Anil Kumbhare, Supriya Patil Yadav, Amar Jadhav, B.G. Shekhar, Sanjay Baviskar, Dilip Sawant, Nisar Tamboli, M. Ghurye and Anand Mandya, among others.
“Generally, those police officers who are appointed as deputy superintendent of police in by the MPSC, take 15-16 years to be included in the Union Public Service. But, because of the continuous delay in the review meetings between the Centre and the state, it stretched on for 23 years. And the long wait of many officers to get the IPS cadre got longer”, said a senior officer.
Other officers who were promoted to IPS are, S Patil, B Gaikar, S. Fulari, S. Kolhe, P. Pawar, P. Budhwant, A. Rokade, J. Nikanaware, S. Shinde, D. Chavan, R Dahale, S. Mahavarkar, S Dabhade, S. Yenpure, J Superkar, N. Reddy and R. Pokale.
