Showbiz babies turn style icons

One-and-a-half year old Aaradhya Bachchan is already a fashion icon. Her cute little pink jackets, leopard-print leggings and ankle boots are making headlines. Not just Bachchan’s daughter, even Emraan Hashmi’s toddler is setting trends.

Be it Farah Khan’s triplets, Sanjay and Manyata Dutt’s twins and Hrithik Roshan’s boys, just like Hollywood, pictures of B-town star kids are splashed all over magazines and newspapers. We ask city fashion designers on the increasing style quotient of star babies.
“Bollywood stars’ kids are catching up with the fashion world too young. But I believe it’s a good thing since there are hardly any fashion shows or fashion designers for toddlers. And when it’s Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s daughter looking pretty in floral hairbands and colourful frocks, many kids’ parents will surely take the cue from it,” says fashion designer Rohit Mittal. He adds that not just parents, even kids now are so aware of what looks nice on them and what doesn’t that they refuse to wear just anything. And so, Emran Hashmi and Hrithik Roshan’s boys naturally become fashion icons.
Constant media glare forces celebrities to ensure that their kids are also dressed up well, says fashion designer Sunita Shankar. “Yesteryear stars kept their kids away from the limelight but paparazzi is everywhere these days,” she says.
It’s nothing new for Suri Cruise to be followed by paparazzi. In fact, she recently launched her own fashion range. Many Hollywood celebrities’ kids are trend-setters in the west. And Bollywood is also taking a cue from its western counterpart, adds designer Sunita Shankar. “In Hollywood, little kids become brand ambassadors and celebrities make money by selling their newborns’ pictures to media houses. However, I believe every kid can be a trend-setter. Then why follow Bollywood’s glam kids only. There is nothing wrong with kids fashion but we should not just copy Hollywood blindly,” she says.
The extremely photogenic son of Shilpa Shetty, Viaan, recently made it to the cover of a magazine. Designer Rohit Khurana says that it’s not a bad thing. “Kids naturally get influenced by their parents. And if parents are Bollywood celebrities or from the fashion industry, then children are most likely to follow suit and become well informed and aware about Bollywood,” he adds. Rohit argues that if Hrithik’s fashion statements inspire many, then why not his sons’? “Bollywood has always been a trend-setter. Now Bollywood couples’ children are also influencing kids fashion,” adds Rohit.
