Spending a night behind bars in Dum Dum Central Jail, scamster Sudipta Sen is back in the police custody, but only after making startling revelations at the court. On Sunday, he and his aide Arvind Singh Chauhan were produced at the Baruipur court in South 24 Parganas amidst protests. The district police wanted to interrogate the Saradha owner in connection with three cases.
A group of Youth Congress activists thronged the court and demonstrated against Mr Sen. Hundreds of agents and depositors also crowded the place to vent their anger against him. Anticipating the massive public anger, the district police officials had a prior discussion about the safety of the two with their counterparts at the Bidhannagar city police and decided to keep the duo at the lock-ups of the New Town police station. After the hearing before additional chief judicial magistrate Debjit Manna, drama unfolded in the courtroom as Mr Sen offered to make a statement. With the judge’s permission, he expressed his wish to cooperate with the police in the probe. He said, “I want to be in the police custody. Baruipur was an important zone in my company’s business. A massive scam happened here. Taking advantage of the faults in the software, a section of employees collected lump sum amount from the depositors but did not deposit in the company’s accounts. I want to disclose about it to the police.”
Appealing to the judge, he said, “If you send me to police custody for 14 days, I have no problem. But I was in the police custody for 25 days already. If I am placed in the police custody again, my heart related ailments may increase.” The court then remanded him in the police custody for 10 days. Later, Mr Sen accused the software company’s senior vice-president of wrongdoing before the media.
He also blamed Arindam Das, alias Bumba, the absconding GM of the Saradha’s regional office in Baruipur, for allegedly grabbing the power of attorney in his name.
Pointing finger at the political leaders, Mr Sen quipped, “If you run the show, you have to manage the show.”
