Quirky is the mood that’s swaying the filmmakers’ choice of titles these days. There’s a whole bunch of the odd and peculiar titles readying up for release — Gunday, Besharam, Lootera, Ghanchakkar, Herogiri, Heropanti, Fukrey and Fugly.
“One of the latest strategies to attract the younger brigade is to sound hip and cool. Such quirky titles are reminiscent of the events or phases that we undergo in our personal lives, which is what makes these titles a hit among youngsters,” says Sachin Dixit, an avid follower of Bollywood films.
Gippi, Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi, Rembo Rajkumar, Hasmukh Pighal Gaya are some more catchy titles.
“Filmmakers these days are leaving no stone unturned to catch the attention of the viewers. Titles with a twist build up a curiosity factor among the masses and they want to know more about the film and its characters. The titles are not just restricted to slangs but also play around with the name of places,” says Pawan Kumar Mishra, assistant manager, programming at PVR Cinema.
“They are the main means of identification of a film that arouse the attention of the audiences. The spiralling trend of using slang words as film titles enhances the relatability factor and is extremely captivating, especially to the youth. The only important thing is that they should go with the storyline,” says film director Sanjay Puran Singh.
