Freshers gear up to get the perfect look

The results are out and the fresh out of school army is busy making last minute preparations before they enter a new life. And it’s not enough shortlisting colleges and courses, for students are gearing up to nail the cool code. From image building, cosmetic surgeries, make up tips, lip plumping, nail art, to designer clothes, perfect frames and tattoos, youngsters are leaving no stone unturned to look their best.

Just-out-of-school students are spending a fortune to get makeovers done, says Dr Deepali Bhardwaj, consultant dermatologist and medical director, Skin and Hair Clinic. Detanning, skin fairness and glow treatments have always been popular but lip plumping is the fad among youngsters. “There is about 30-40 per cent increase in number of students coming for various treatments. Laser treatments are also in demand as everyone wants lips like Kareena Kapoor or Katrina Kaif,” adds Dr Deepali.
And Facebook has only fanned the need to look your best. Image consultant Sheena Agarwal says, “In the Facebook era, looks have become a priority for today’s youngsters. And now even parents want their kids to attend sessions on body language, how to dress up, table etiquettes and a lot more.”
Dr Deepali also adds that these kids are willing to pay as much as `15,000 to 18,000 per month for various treatments. “They do ask for discounts and crib that their pocket money will be exhausted into buying beauty products yet they are willing to spend,” adds Deepali.
Makeover consultant Aashmeen Munjaal says, “Not just girls even boys go for platinum and ultimo facials that help in getting rid of blemishes, tanning and dark spots,” says Aashmeen.
According to Sudeep Grover, national hair trainer at Lakme salon, “Hair extensions and funky hair colours are another big hit with students. With no time in hand for ironing/blow dry many girls go for straightening/ smoothening that easily can cost `5,000 to 8,000.”
Dental jewellery is becoming popular among college-goers, says dentist Hemant Joshi. “Crystal embellishments can cost around `8,000 while teeth whitening and bleaching costs around `10,000,” he adds.
To stand out in the crowd, youngsters are also getting inked, says tattoo artist Max. “From Lord Buddha, dragon to some words inscribed on their body, the idea is to have a tattoo that defines their individuality,” he adds.
Hitting the gym is also a must for aspirants. “They follow the exercise routine and diet plan rigorously and are keen on shedding those extra pounds piled up during the exams,” says Althea Shah, VP marketing and fitness expert Gold’s Gym.
