An internal probe report about the spot-fixing row in the Indian Premier League was submitted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday.
Former police officer Ravi N. Sawani, tasked with investigating the allegations of corruption involving Shantakumaran Sreesanth. Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, had to compile his document without being able to meet the three cricketers who continue to be in custody.
Sawani, who is the BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit chief, had met top Delhi Police officials soon after he was handed the task but where his report will now go is in doubt since events of the last few days have overtaken his initial appointment.
Sawani’s mandate was to examine allegation levelled by the Delhi Police against the three players and the three matches involving the Rajasthan Royals players that had come under the scanner of the Delhi Police. Most those arrested by Delhi Police, the three cricketers and a number of bookies have been charged under the dreaded MCOCA after being booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
