Hemavathi on the road to recovery

Bengaluru: Thirty-five-year old Hemavathi, who was confined to a room by her parents for five years, is recovering at the psychiatric observation ward at NIMHANS in the city.
 
Dr V.L. Sateesh, Medical Superintendent, Nimhans said: “Hemavathi is doing well, she looks much more cheerful today. She is talking to us. We are continuing her medication for anemia and providing her with nutrition. An X-ray of her joints was conducted. An orthopedic surgeon has reviewed her   condition and reports and has  advised physiotherapy. Besides this, an X-ray of her chest and EEG were conducted and her reports show that there is no major problem.”
 
However, she will take some time to emerge from her depressed state. “It would not be appropriate to ask her about her past now as it would be stressful. We need to wait a little while,” added Dr Sateesh.
 
The victim, who was locked up in a room and kept in confinement, was rescued by the police from her residence at Malleshwaram on Tuesday. Hemavathi, a commerce graduate, was found in a traumatised, anaemic and malnourished  state.
