Fever: 12 deaths reported in state

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 12 deaths were reported in the state due to various fevers on Thursday even as the KGMCTA objected to conducting evening OP’s in Medical College hospitals.
 
Eight deaths were reported from Kottayam, three from Kollam and one from Thrissur. Of the deaths nine were suspected dengue, two suspected leptospirosis death and one fever death.
 
The dead have been identified as Ajaya Chandran, 19 of Kollam, suspected fever death. Sobha, 38 of Kanjirapally, Mary Kutty Joseph, 64 of Athirampuzha and Jessy Reji, 34 of Thidanad.
 
Sajini, 34 of  Moolamattom, Pennamma, 51 of Kadaplamattam, Ramakrishnan Nair, 86 of Kothanellur, and Ponnamma, 75 of Vaikkom, Abdul Salam, 50 of Poruvazhi, kollam, Anitha,46, of  Kollam died from suspected dengue.
 
Sudha, 42 of Thrissur and Peter, 58 of Vazhoor, Kottayam, died from suspected leptospirosis on June 5. About 15,990 fever cases, 90 dengue fever and seven leptospirosis cases were reported on Thursday.
 
In a meeting with Health Secretary Rajeev Sadanandan KGMCTA Members said that there were practical difficulties in conducting evening OP’s.
 
Dr S Sethunath, President, Thiruvananthapuram Unit of KGMCTA said, “Not all patients who suffer from fever or dengue require treatment in a medical college. According to fever protocol only those in the C category, more serious patients, require Medical college treatment.”
