Hyderabad: A 35-year-old man stuffed a gelatin stick in his mouth and set it off to end his life after a quarrel with his wife. The incident occurred at Babulreddynagar near Mailardevpally on Thur-sday morning.
The man, P. Yadgiri, died instantly after his head was blown up right in front of his wife. Police said that Yadgiri, who works in a quarry as a stone-cutter, had an argument with his wife. She wanted him to go to work, which he had missed for seven days. He was drunk at the time of the incident.
At around 8.30 in the morning, Yadgiri was on the terrace of his house. “He got drunk in the house after having a fight with his wife. She was nagging him to go to work as he had not done so for one entire week. He went to the terrace and stuffed the explosive in his mouth and set it off,” said Md Akram Basha, Mailardevpally sub-inspector of police. He is investigating the case.
His wife, P.  Aruna, tried stopping him but failed. Ms Aruna informed the neighbours and then called up the police. “As the stick exploded, half of his face was blown to pieces, and he lay on the terrace. Since the injury was serious, he died on the spot,” the cop said.
The cops are yet to find out where Yadgiri had procured the explosive from. The police team who visited his house conducted a search to find out if he had kept more explosives there.
Aruna told the police that since Yadgiri did not go for work for the past week and was getting drunk all day, she admonished him and asked him to stop drinking. Aruna, who runs a clothes shop in the same area, was not aware that her husband had explosives with him.
Aruna and Yadgiri have three children — one girl and two boys. When the incident occurred, they were fast asleep in the house. Police have booked a case for suspicious death under CrPc section 174 (to inquire and report on suicide) and section 4 (punishment for ...keeping explosive with intent to endanger life or property) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.

Chennai: The Chennai city crime branch sleuths who went to nab actor Leena Maria Paul, lover of Sukash, conman wanted in connection with at least two cheating cases in the city, in Delhi were baffled by the fact that the she was not having any decent dress to travel on  train from there to Chennai.
“Leena had only shorts and minis in her wardrobe. One of the policewomen had to lend her churidar to her so that she could wear for the train journey. There were lot of photographs of Leena in which she was scantily dressed.
She was obsessed with lavish lifestyle with conman Sukash who impressed others with siren fitted car and claims of being a film director,” the police here said after interrogating her for a day in connection with a Rs 19 crore bank fraud.

She confessed that she was forced to live with her lover, though she was aware of the fact that he was cheating everybody. Sukash had at least nine luxury cars and over 50 high-end wrist watches with him. 
With Sukash on the run, the police had extracted some information from Leena about the friends and background of her lover.  She had also disclosed that a comedy actor in Tamil Nadu was close to her lover Sukash.

Chennai: N. Divya, a caste Hindu girl, whose marriage with a dalit boy triggered violence in Dharmapuri district after her father committed suicide on November 7, on Thursday appeared before the Madras high court, and said she has returned to her mother for good. She also declared she did not want to talk to her husband, Illavarasan.
Recording her statement, a division bench comprising Justices M. Jaichandran and M. M. Sundresh permitted her to stay with her mother. When the HCP filed by Thenmozhi, mother of Divya,  came up for hearing, both of them were present in the court. Divya’s husband Illavarasan was also present.
After enquiring the girl, the bench in its interim order said, “On enquiry, the detenue had stated that she is in a highly disturbed state of mind, due to the incidents that had taken place in the recent past. Therefore, she would like to stay with her mother, before taking an appropriate decision.
She had also made it clear that she does not want to talk with Illavarasan at present. On enquiry, she had further stated that she had gone to visit her mother, on receiving information from her that she was unwell.

The detenue had stated that she had gone to see her mother on her own volition. In view of the statements made by the detenue, she is at liberty to stay with her mother. It was also made clear that it would be open to Divya as well as Illavarasan to make appropriate request, for providing them the necessary protection. If such requests are made, it is for the police to consider them and  provide sufficient protection as requested by them, the bench added , further hearing of the case.
The bench declined to entertain a plea from the counsel for the petitioner not to proceed with the FIR registered on the complaint from Illavarasan that Divya was missing and someone had kidnapped her on June 4. It was a different proceeding, the bench pointed out.
On November 7, Nagaraj, a caste Hindu, committed suicide over his daughter marrying a dalit boy. This incident triggered violence in Dharma­­­­puri  in which several houses belonging to Dalits were torched by a mob.
His wife Then­­­mozhi filed a habeas corpus petition be­fore the HC, alleging that Illavarasan had kidnapped her daughter and keeping her in illegal custody. During the last hearing, the girl app­eared before the court and went along with her husband. Two days ago, Illavarasan gave a complaint to the police that Divya was missing and someone had kidnapped her.

Bengaluru: This incident must be the first of its kind in the history of marathons across the world. After the success of the TCS 10K Marathon on May 19 in the city, it looks like the event organisers and some of the marathon runners have been put in the dock by a 64-year-old man. The senior citizen, who neither participated in the event, nor is associated with it, is making the organisers ‘toil’ even after the event.
The aged man, who was returning to his house on Lavelle Road after his daily morning walk, suffered a fractured left leg after a few marathon runners collided with him in front of Mahatma Gandhi Park, en route to Lavelle Road.
The victim is 64-year-old businessman and exporter Sridhara Babu, a resident of Casa Lavelle on Lavelle Road. At 8:30 am on May 19, traffic was allowed only on one side of the road — from MG Road towards Kasturba Road— due to the  marathon organised by Procam International.
The competitors were running on the other side of the road. While the senior citizen was waiting for the pedestrian signal to turn green so that he could cross M G Road; some runners charged into him, making him fall down and sustain injuries.
The impact of the fall was such that he was unable to move his left leg and could not even get up. Sridhara was able to recognise those who dashed into him as the runners sported bib numbers and wore  running attire.
Some of the other runners stopped to help the senior citizen up and even offered him water. However, he was unable to get up due to the pain in his left hip. The organisers immediately arranged for an ambulance and Sridhara was put on a stretcher and shifted to their medical camp on Vidhana Veedhi.
Some doctors advised him to get admitted to Fortis Hospital on Cunningham Road. The CEO of Procam International, Dilip Jayaram, met him at Fortis and assured him that all expenses would be met. From there, he was shifted to RMV Hospital at Sanjaynagar where his left leg was operated upon.
He was in hospital for nearly a fortnight; but Sridhara’s bills reportedly remain unpaid. Upset, the sexagenarian dashed off a complaint to the police commissioner claiming it was negligence on part of the runners which resulted in significant financial loss to him. To add to his woes, he has been advised bed rest for three months and so his business will be affected.
“Although the victim accuses the event organisers and some runners of negligence, it would be a tedious process to summon them for questioning. It is a very strange case, but we cannot ignore it. Presuming that the event was recorded, we will have to go through the recordings to see the collision,” said the police.
