Spot fixing: Sreesanth, 17 others released from prison

Tainted Indian bowler S Sreesanth, who was granted bail on Monday in connection with IPL spot fixing scandal, was released from the jail on Tuesday. Ankeet Chavan, who was also arrested along with Sreesanth, and 17 others were also released. 
The verdict to grant bail came as a huge setback to the New Delhi Police who have been building a case for close to a month now. The Judge of the sessions court who granted bail rapped the Delhi Police for invoking the provisions of the stringent MCOCA act against Sreesanth and the accused. The Judge said that the evidence linking the cricketers to Dawood being scanty, the decision to invoke MCOCA against the accused was a bit harsh. 
 
Soon after news came about Sreesanth's bail, his family, including mother Savitri Devi, sister Nivedita and brother-in-law Madhu Balakrishnan, went to offer pray at St Antony’s Church, Kaloor, on Monday night.
Ajit Chandila, the third player arrested in spot fixing scandal, is however still in judicial custody as he has not applied for bail His lawyer wanted to wait and see the outcome of bail plea of others.
Meanwhile, two more bookies including cricketer turned bookie, Amit Singh were also granted bail.
