TRS misses opportunity to present Telangana case

Hyderabad: The TRS has missed a golden opportunity to catch the Congress and the Telugu Desam on the wrong foot over the Telangana issue.
To break the impasse of the last few days in the Assembly, the Speaker, Nadendla Manohar, on Thursday held a meeting with Floor leaders at his chambers. TD MLAs did not attend the meeting, but the TRS and other major parties did.
A consensus was reached at the meeting that the government would agree to discuss the Telangana issue and the arrests of Telangana leaders and workers in view of the “Chalo Assembly” call on June 14.
If not satisfied with the government’s response after the discussion, the Opposition parties may go ahead with their protest. All the Opposition parties present agreed to this. The TRS Floor leader, Etela Rajender, said that he would discuss the proposal with his party leaders and come back.
After 15 minutes, Rajender came back with TRS MLA K.T. Rama Rao, son of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The Opposition was sure the TRS would agree to the proposal. But Rama Rao told the Speaker that his party will agree to the proposal only if the government agrees to pass a resolution on Telangana after the discussion. Since minister D. Sridhar Babu who was present said that the government is ready to discuss the Telangana issue but not to pass a resolution, the meeting ended inconclusively.
The CPM floor leader, J. Ranga Reddy, said that in his opinion the TRS had missed a good opportunity to expose the Congress and TD. After exposing the Congress, the TRS could have demanded the government to pass a resolution on Telangana.
