The first day of admissions to FYJC for minority quota seats saw a mad rush of students to most colleges in the city. Even though admissions were open for a mere three hours on Saturday, minority colleges claimed that they had already filled up 30-40 per cent of the seats. Admissions to FYJC started on Saturday after hard copies of SSC marksheets were distributed at 1 pm.
Dr V.J. Sirwaiya, principal of Wilson College said that at the end of the day, nearly 30 per cent of the seats in Science had been filled up. “We have received nearly 250 applications for the minority quota seats and between 3 and 6 pm, almost 30 per cent of the applicants had confirmed their admissions,” said Dr Sirwaiya.
Jai Hind College principal Dr Ashok Wadia also said that the college had received more applications than the seats available for the Sindhi minority quota. “Though it is difficult to give an exact number of students who have taken admission on Saturday, we are sure that there will be no seats left to hand over to the deputy director’s office to add in the open quota,” said Dr Wadia.
Minority colleges have to handover the excess seats that remain at the end of admissions to minority quota. The deputy director’s office then includes these excess seats in the open category, admissions for which will be done online.
