Perambur housewife's murder: Brother- in- law main suspect
Chennai: Investigators probing April 12 murder for gain of the wife of a railway officer in Perambur, disclosed that the brother-in- law of the victim is the main suspect. He is absconding.  “We suspect that the Tirhcy railway official Krishna Kumar’s brother had committed the crime,” a senior police official involved in the investigation told DC.
The 51-year-old woman, Sumathi, mother of two, was found murdered in her house in Perambur. Sumathi who lived with her son Moulidharan, a part-time BPO employee, was alone at home when the crime took place as her son was at work that night. He returned around 4.30 am to find his mother dead.
The police noted that the suspect had gained entry into the house easily because he was the victim’s brother-in-law. “He had been seeking financial assistance for a long time though Sumathi’s family was not keen on extending help.
The suspect had stabbed her repeatedly before escaping with valuables, a four-sovereign gold chain and  Rs 20,000 in cash,” police said.

Hyderabad: Bloodshed that has its roots in extra-marital affairs is the highest in Andhra Pradesh. The state tops in the number of murders committed to seek revenge over illicit affairs, reveals the recent National Crime Records Bureau data.
The motive for 445 murders, which were reported in the state last year, was revenge on cheating partners or their paramours. This is around 16 per cent of the murder cases registered in AP.
According to police officials, some of these murders are committed by the husband or the wife to eliminate their married partner in order to join their paramour. “In other cases, the wife or husband finds out about the illicit affairs and takes revenge on his or her partner,” said ACP of Falaknuma, Tahir Ali.
Recently, a security guard, Mallikarjun, 31, was brutally murdered in his house at Addagutta by his wife and her paramour. They murdered him with an iron rod when he questioned their relationship.
According to the police, most love affairs end up in murder when either party, the girl or the boy, is unhappy with the relationship and decides to end it. While the motive for 317 murder cases reported in Andhra Pradesh was personal enmity, 219 murder cases had their roots in disputes over property. As per the NCRB data, a total of 2717 murder cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh last year.

Chennai: A gang of highway robbers on Sunday drove away a container filled with cigarette bundles, estimated to be worth around Rs25 lakh, in Cholavaram, just before the load from Hyderabad entered Chennai.
The container was driven by Gopinath from Kochi, Kerala, with cleaner Venu by his side. According to them, the robbers, driving a car, waylaid the lorry on Sunday early morning on Red Hills Road. Five people got out of the car and after assaulting Gopinath and Venu, took control of the container and drove it away.
“Two men drove away the container while the other three went by the car in which they came,” the Tiruvallur police said, quoting a complaint from Gopinath. The cigarette bundles, from ITC, were being taken from the Hyderabad dealers to the Chennai distributors when the robbery happened.

Chennai: A 21-year-old driver was arrested by the police in connection with the murder of his 70-year-old employer in Nolambur on Saturday. Balaji of Nerkundram, who had been working as a driver in the house for the last six months, strangulated Parimalam to death.
Balaji had decided to murder Parimalam and burgle the house because he had overheard her conversation with her relative about the possible purchase of a diamond stud valued Rs 12 lakh.Balaji first strangulated and then smshed her head on the wall to kill her even as her husband Umapathy, 75, was busy with his computer downstairs.
He had tied her with a bed sheet and dumped the body in the bathroom. The couple have three children - a son who lives in London and another in the city while their daughter lives in Bengaluru.
Having stolen 30 sovereigns of gold, including a diamond piece, along with Rs1.5 lakh in cash from the bureau, Balaji had gone straight to a pawnbroker’s shop to pledge the ornaments. “He even purchased a bike on Saturday itself using the looted money,” the police noted.  The police tracked Balaji using his mobile records.

Dentist hangs self over suspected harassment
Bengaluru: Upset over a fight she had with her husband, a 28-year-old dentist hanged herself at their residence in Vijaynagar police limits on Sunday afternoon.
Sumathi and N. Mohinder had an arranged marriage in early 2009 and the couple was reportedly happy. Sumathi lived with her husband and her in-laws. The couple has a two-year-old daughter. Her husband works with Herbalife.
It is still unclear exactly why, but between 12 noon and 2 pm, Sumathi committed suicide in her room, even as in-laws and her daughter were present in the house.
Around 2pm, finding the door to Sumathi’s bedroom locked and their calls for her going unanswered, Sumathi’s in-laws forced the door open to find her hanging. They rushed her to a local hospital nearby where she was declared brought dead.
The police said Sumathi’s parents alleged that their daughter committed suicide because of ‘unbearable harassment’ from her husband.
