[1]Anantapur: The Anantapur District Cooperative Central Bank election process has taken new twist after the High Court suspended the G.O. in connection with providing eligibility for all the PACS presidents, in the district, as a special case, on Thursday.
With the effect, the election authorities have to re-list the eligible members by deleting ineligible presidents from contesting the elections. It may be a jolt for the sitting DCCB chairman of Anantapur, T.Kona Reddy, who was in the fray for the chairman’s post for the second time. Several defaulted members, mainly from Congress party and few from YSR Congress party had filed nominations for the post of directors. Nearly 12 PACS presidents, elected from defaulted societies, filed nominations for the directors’ posts for DCCB.
According to information reaching here, YSR Congress leaders filed a petition in the High Court against the GO, issued by the State Government, by giving eligibility to all the presidents.
The state government had given relaxation for only Anantapur DCCB, based on the reason that the district fed in severe drought, since several years. While elections were held for all other DCCBs in the state, the petitioner approached the HC seeking to conduct elections similarly in other districts.
Sources said, the Court had suspended the Government order on Thursday. The YSR Congress hopes to bag the chairman’s seat and other directors, if the election process is conducted in the old manner, because Congress party had to choose another candidate, as the chairman, following the chairman aspirant himself is elected from defaulted society.
Though, ADCCB elections are likely to get postponed, there was no legal hurdle for DCMS, the sources said. District personnel observed no information was received in connection with the suspension of the Government orders.
