‘Kolaveri was a stepping stone’

For his debut Hindi film, Raanjhanaa, south Indian actor Dhanush may be going all out for the promotions but he confesses that he is not “really comfortable” doing all that. “It’s not so in the Tamil film industry. We promote films but not on such a large scale,” he says.
However, he understands that the right approach during promotions can help the film. “If so many people are involved in planning the promotional strategy of a film, there must be some reason,” he says.
But then there are filmmakers who don’t believe in promotions at all. “Maybe that works for their films. But some films need to be promoted well. You can’t compare any two films as they both can be starkly different,” he adds.
While people are already looking forward to see him in more movies, the actor says he is not really looking forward to any future. “You can’t plan a future. I believe that future is a way to look ahead in life and the past is dead,” he remarks.
However, his past has worked well for him. His song Kolaveri Di gave him instant recognition all over the country? “The song’s a blessing. But I have moved ahead of it. I can’t live with it for my entire life,” he says.
The actor feels blessed with whatever he has got till now. His look that’s nowhere close to what we perceive as the look of a conventional lead actor or hero has always worked for him. “I have got films that require my kind of body and looks. Nobody has asked me to put on kilos or build six-pack abs. And I feel commoners can relate more to me as they think I am one of them,” he quips.
