The state government has decided to bear all the medical expenses of the girl, who was seriously injured by a pizza delivery boy last week, women and child welfare minister Varsha Gaikwad announced.
Ms Gaikwad met the victim at Raheja Hospital on Sunday, where she is currently recuperating.
After meeting the victim, the women and child welfare development minister said that she found the girl very courageous. “The way she handled the whole situation was commendable. She is mentally and physically very strong. Though she suffered serious injuries to her head, she is now stable,” the minister said.
After the meeting, Ms Gaikwad assured the victim’s family that all possible help would be provided to them. “We will bear all her medical expenses. The government will also like to felicitate her for showing courage and handling the situation without panicking,” Ms Gaikwad said.
On June 25, a teenaged delivery boy attacked the 23-year-old Worli resident, who had ordered a pizza for dinner.
The boy tried to rape her and attacked her with a knife and also hit her on her head, when she resisted. An alert neighbour, who heard her screams, opened the door with a duplicate key and saved her life.
The women and child development minister also expressed her discontentment over the pizza shop owner for having employed a 17-year-old minor at his shop. “The accused is only 17, and is not eligible for a driving licence. However, the boy rode a motorcycle to deliver the pizza,” the minister said. She demanded that the pizza shop owner be booked for employing a minor.
