Sri Lanka posted 219/8 against the West Indies thanks to a fighting unbeaten 90 from wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara in their rain-interrupted crucial one-day international match in the tri-nation series on the reserve day, here on Monday.
Resuming at 60/3 in 19 overs after rain had washed out play on Sunday, Lanka were 122/4 in 32 overs when rain reduced the match to 41 overs. Persistent rain had washed out the day on Sunday, forcing the officials to push the ODI to the reserve day but drizzles followed by a heavy downpour delayed the resumption even on the day.
Earlier, Sri Lanka lost Lahiru Thirimanne for 23 after a late start thanks to the weather.
Sangakkara and Thirimanne began cautiously against the Windies, who had made early inroads on Sunday. Though Sangakkara scored a couple of boundaries, Thirimanne perished when he played on a short delivery from Marlon Samuels.
Captain Angelo Mathews, playing his 100th ODI, joined Sangakkara and took no time to settle as he launched Samuels for a six and a boundary. A further rain delay reduced the game to 41 overs and Roach got rid of Mathews (30) soon after.
