Bengaluru: A day after transport minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj had approved the controversial Akrama-Sakrama Bill, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified that the scheme in the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill would be limited to encroachments on government land in the villages.
Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the Governor had given his consent to one of the three Bills which pertained to houses in rural areas. The previous BJP government had sent three Bills – one from the urban development department and two from the revenue department – to the Governor as part of an initiative to regularise encroachments on government land in urban and rural areas. Even deviations from the sanctioned plan were sought to be legalized.
Bhardwaj, however, said the two other Bills were illegal and returned them, but approved one Bill on regularization of houses built on government land in rural areas.
Akrama-Sakrama not for Bengaluru
In a reversal of the ‘decision’ announced on Monday by transport minister Ramalinga Reddy on the Akrama-Sakrama Bill, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified that the scheme would be limited to houses built on state land in villages.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, the CM said the Governor had given his consent for one of the three Bills which pertained to houses in rural areas. This means that the bill for regularisation of property in urban areas including Bengaluru is yet to get the governor’s nod.
The previous BJP government had sent three Bills—one from the urban development department and two from the revenue department—to the Governor as part of an initiative to regularize encroachments on government land in urban and rural areas.
Bhardwaj, however, described two Bills as illegal and returned them, but approved one Bill on regularization of houses built in rural areas. On Monday, Ramalinga Reddy erred when he said the Governor had approved the Akrama-Sakrama scheme for urban areas.
