Following the failure of its ambitious initiative to provide admission for Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) through the online process, the directorate of vocational education and training (DVET) has decided to send out officials to all the regions in the state and get the filled up forms manually. The officials will then be responsible for filling up the forms of the applicants on their return to the office.
The online admission process had run into trouble from the very onset as the DVET website failed to open or took very long to load. As a result of this, numerous ITI aspirants were left in the lurch and could not apply for admission. Apart from website issues, students from many regions did not have Internet access and so were unable to apply.
Objections were then raised from various quarters — both academic and administrative. “Due to technical glitches, the online admission process could not take off,” said an official from DVET. He added that as a solution, DVET would be sending out its officials to get the forms filled up. The campaign has been christened “Special Admission Drive” and will try to reach out to students from all regions.
“Officials will get the printed forms filled from students from each and every village and region. These officials will then return to the office and fill up the online form on behalf of the students. The forms are being filled up in the mornings and evenings when the Internet speed is better,” said joint director C.A. Ninale of Pune region.
Nearly one lakh students have applied for admission to the ITIs this year and the admission process will continue till July 15.
