Almost a year after the murder of Ranvir Sena chief Brahmheshwar Singh, alias “Mukhiya”, the CBI is all set to start its probe into the killing. Mukhiya was the founder of the militia of big landholders and middle class peasants in South Bihar plains.
Sources said, “Earlier, even after recommendations by the Bihar government for a CBI probe into the killing, the agency could not register a case due to lack of adequate number of investigators. The agency had even requested the state government to provide it with their officials to assist the CBI sleuths in the investigations”. Now the agency has decided to investigate the case, sources added.
Brahmeshwar Singh was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on June 1, 2012. Singh was on a morning walk near his house in Ara (Bhojpur) when unidentified assailants shot him.
“The department of personnel and training (DoPT) will soon notify the CBI probe into the killing of Mukhiya. Immediately after notification by the DoPT, the CBI will constitute a team of its officials to probe the case,” sources said. The agency will soon send a team of its officials to the spot where Mukhiya was shot dead.
The CBI sleuths will also collect all relevant documents related to the case from the Bihar police, which probed the case. The agency will register a separate case on the basis of FIR registered by the Bihar Police, sources added.
The CBI does not have adequate number of investigators as the agency is investigating several high-profile cases. “This is the reason that we requested the Bihar government to provide investigators,” sources clarified. It is true that in certain cases, which require field verification and cross examination, the CBI requests concerned state governments to provide investigators, sources added.
