Now the Delhiites won’t have to pay extra money to get information from the Delhi high court on an urgent basis under the RTI Act throughout the working days.
Keeping in view the letter written by an RTI activist Anoop Prakash, the court has amended its rule and also made it possible to pay the fee towards providing information by way of Indian postal order, demand draft and pay order.
A letter communicated to Mr Prakash by the court said, “This court has considered the errors cited by you in your letter in the rules and recommended amendments in the Delhi high court (RTI) Rules, 2006. The same has been notified...and published in the Delhi Gazette.”
Earlier, Mr Prakash, in his letters to various high courts, has suggested several rules framed by them under the transparency law were inconsistent with the RTI Act. The Punjab and Haryana high court has already permitted the information seekers to pay for it by way of DDs, banker’s cheques and IPOs, Mr Prakash said.
“...The matter was considered by this court and it has been decided that application fee under high court of Punjab and Haryana Right to Information Rules 2007 be accepted by way of demand draft, bankers cheques and Indian Postal Orders,” the letter had said.
