It’s not often that when an actor chats about his latest role — that he’ll be portraying that of a female character. But that’s exactly what popular telly face Gaurav Gera is doing in his newest show, Mrs Pammi Pyarelal. The promos have shown Gaurav looking as pretty as any glamorous young woman, and the actor says the experience has been exciting — and exhausting. “I was scared when I was asked to get a wax for the first time!” Gaurav confessed. “I used a crème on my legs and then realised I’d have to do this every few days. I got so bored of it that I said I wouldn’t do this. I just do my arms now and that’s it!” he quipped.
Gaurav shared that he has a team comprising not just designers but also two make-up artistes who help him slip into the persona of Pammi. “Now I know just how much women have to do when they get dressed, while men don’t have to waste their time,” he said with a laugh.
Apart from the requisite make-up and styling, Gaurav humorously referred to all the padding he needs to wear now. He also had to use fake nails, get used to walking, sitting and talking differently and also adjust to wearing high heels.
Gaurav says, as an actor who has been slipping in and out of characters for such a long time, taking up this particular role didn’t require that much thought. The only “fear factor” was in taking up a daily show with its attendant rigours. “Earlier I was little scared to do a daily soap, as they require you to keep working. I was a bit skeptical about Pammi, but for me, acting is acting. I choose shows based on the character I get to play. I don’t want to do role like that of a devar… Jassi was my last daily soap and then I’ve had a 10-year gap because I felt that everything I was getting was just the same. But I had the time now,” Gaurav says.
