The traffic police has cracked the whip on motorists driving under the influence of
alcohol by increasing their number of surprise nakabandis to three times in a week. In the past, the police used to conduct nakabandis twice a week.
In another positive development, the traffic police, as mentioned by police commissioner Satyapal Singh at a recent grievance redressal day (GRD) meet, have now received 633 more personnel in their force.
In the past four months, the traffic police has set a record by booking over 2 lakh motorists within a period of four months for several traffic violations. This includes seven thousand cases of drunk driving.
Confirming the development, DCP (traffic) Pratap Dighavkar said, “To make the enforcement effective, we conduct nakabandis three times a week and take a daily report of all the 2,800 constables. In case, the constable’s performance is not up to the mark, we ask him to come to the headquarter and give a reason for the same.”
