Navi Mumbai police officers have blamed the lack of security at the residence of Vijayhind Singh (55) for Monday’s daring robbery where he was brutally attacked along with his male domestic help. Incidentally, the fact that he owns a leading security agency, Guru Security, has baffled investigators at his laxity in securing his own house.
“His house looks unlike a security agency owner’s residence. There are no CCTV cameras and he has glass sliding doors, which can be easily opened. The sliding doors are enlarged versions of sliding windows and don’t even have a lock. They have a hook that is arrested into a breech when closed all the way. That too can be easily released by putting in a screw driver,” said an officer.
According to the police, the robbers jumped over the compound wall and directly headed for the sliding doors. “There aren’t even grills on some of the windows. It is surprising as to how a security agency owner can be confident about his house not being the target of thieves. We also heard that he has a staff of around 500. Some of them could have easily been deployed outside his house,” said another officer from the Nerul police station.
Mr Singh and his servant Ashok Yadav (28) are currently recuperating at MGM Hospital and are yet to give a detailed statement to the police. The police will also prepare sketches of the two accused. Officers, however, observed that the assailants were “brutal” in nature when they assaulted the two. “Normally, robbers will stop the attack after getting their hands on the loot and flee. But they resumed their assault even after stealing the valuables. It seemed they almost wanted to kill them,” said additional CP Fattehsingh Patil.
