Ballia: An eight-month-old baby admitted to a district hospital died today after a rickshaw puller allegedly gave him an injection, police said.
According to a complaint filed by the child's family, the incident took place this morning when the accused, allegedly in an inebriated state, administered an injection to the baby leading to his death, Additional Superintendent of Police, K C Goswami said.
Additional District Magistrate K P Singh has been ordered to probe the charges and submit his report to the district magistrate.
In July last year, a sweeper was caught on camera attending patients in emergency ward of the same hospital. Sweeper Raj Kumar had claimed he administers injections and stitches according to instructions given by doctors.

Kozhikode: The death of Aditi S. Namboothiri, a seven-year old girl, at Bilathikulam here on April 30 was caused by brutal torture allegedly by her father and step-mother.
According to the report by Dr Sherly Vasu, head of the department of forensic medicine, Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, the girl was subjected to mental and physical torture several times earlier and the injury caused on the pelvic region led to her death on the fateful day.
There was an attempt to finish off the child one month ago, says the report. The nine page report points out that attempts were made by the accused to strangle and make her drink boiled barley water, while she was at home during summer holidays.

According to police sources, Subramanyan Namboothiri is the prime accused and Devika the second accused in the chargesheet which is likely to be submitted at Kozhikode first class judicial magistrate court within two days.
Aditi was a class 1 student in BEM UP school, West Hill here. She was admitted to a city hospital with bruises and burns, including on her private parts, on the night of April 29. Turning suspicious, the doctors informed the police. She later died at the Medical College Hospital here.
Subramanyan Namboothiri was a priest of Bilathikulam Siva temple. Married thrice, Devika was earlier Ramla, a Muslim woman from Mankada, Malappuram district. At the age of 13, she married Muhammed. Later when Muhammed left, she married Raman Namboothiri, priest of Sreekrishna temple, Aluva, after getting converted to Hinduism.
During her days with him, she was involved in the theft of sacred ornaments from the temple. The case is still on at the court at Perumbavoor. Later, Devika married Subramanyan whose wife Sreeja was killed in an accident three years back.
Arun S. Namboothiri, a class IV student in the same school, is the brother of the deceased. Although the residents’ association members had several times informed Childline activists about the torture, she couldn’t be saved.

Chennai: The city police on Monday arrested three persons in connection with a case where an NRI’s land in Adambakkam, worth Rs 1.25 crore, was sold using fake documents.
Based on a complaint from Madhanagopal, residing in Dubai, the police arrested the accused, identified as Chockalingam, Murugan and Lakshmanaraj, who have been running a real estate business, Thai Homes Construction Company, in Adambakkam.
Investigations revealed that the accused had executed a fake sale deed by a power of attorney of the owner and sold the 2220 sq ft of land to Poornima through an impersonator.
As per the orders of city police commissioner S.George, the accused were arrested and produced before the land grabbing special court-1, Periampet, and lodged in Puzhal central prison.
The police request that the public, while purchasing property, must verify the genuineness of the documents with the sub-registrar office to avoid problems when they come in possession of the place.

Chennai: At least 20 kg of silver and silk sarees were stolen from a temple in J.J. Nagar on Monday night.
The thieves were reportedly hiding inside the Raja Rajeswari Amman temple when the office staff locked the premises on Monday late evening. The theft came to light when priest Subramani and accountant Gopal opened the temple, located on fifth block, on Tuesday morning.
To their shock, they found that the three bureaus kept in the office room were broken open by the intruders. “The front gate and door were intact. “The burglars seem to have used the gate on the terrace to escape after committing the crime,” the police surmise.
As the burglars had broken open the lock of the door that was locked from inside, the police believe that they had used that particular gate to escape after committing the theft.
The ransacked office room showed that the burglars had enough time to check the value of each item before taking it away. “They had left behind the less expensive items,” the police informed.
“The burglars must have been hiding inside the temple when the office staff locked the premises and went home. So, it was easy for them to steal the valuables from the temple and escape,” the police said.
After conducting enquiries with the temple staff, the police said a wedding was conducted in the temple on Monday. “The wedding lunch was served on the terrace. May be we will have to question the people who attended the wedding,” the police said.

Chennai: Three successive incidents of burglary at Sri Raja Rajeshwari temple at Mogappair, here, within a short span of five years, has baffled the temple authorities.
Surprisingly, none of the culprits has been arrested so far. Though the earlier two incidents had been minor, Tuesday’s pre-planned burglary has shocked the temple authorities.
In recent years, the temple saw development and it witnessed increased patronage by devotees. Tuesday’s burglary, which happened due to the complacency of the staff of this private temple, has exposed the chinks in the security.
There are no burglar alarms at the temple and only a few days ago, the temple administration had thought of installing surveillance cameras.
“Only recently, we decided to instal surveillance cameras inside the temple, there are seven separate shrines for Sri Raja Rajeshwari, Karumari Amman, Perumal and other gods,” says A. Srinivasan, chairman of the temple board.
The 22 kg of silver kavacham (armour) of the Goddess and other deities is estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh. Besides, the silk sarees used to adorn the Goddesses have also been stolen. The temple was built about 25 years ago.
Two years ago, some miscreants broke open the hundial, and brass lamps were stolen about five years ago. There are over 25 private temples in and around Mogappair.\
The theft has brought into sharp focus the need to improve security measures in all the temples.
Recently, burglars struck at temples in Avadi and Ayapakkam and stole kalasams, a crown, silver items and utensils totally worth Rs 4 lakh.

‘Techie’ couple robs aged woman
Chennai: A man and woman, posing as techie couple hunting for accommodation, robbed an aged woman of her gold and cash in Selaiyur on Monday.
Saraswathi, 63, wife of a lawyer, was gagged and robbed by the couple who gained entry into the house by telling the woman that they were looking for accommodation. Saraswathi was alone at home when the incident happened at Eswari Nagar.
The visitors claimed that they were working in a software firm and looking for rented accommodation. While Saraswathi took them around the portion of the house, the couple suddenly attacked her and gagged her before robbing 18 sovereigns of gold.
In another incident reported in Pozhichallur, in Sankar Nagar police limit, two cooking gas cylinders and Rs 50,000 cash were reportedly stolen by a couple when the inmates were away. Chandran, owner of the house, learn that the gas cylinders were taken away by intruders along with the cash.
The neighbours told him that a well dressed man, accompanied by a woman, claiming to be his relatives, had removed the cylinders. “It looks like the lock was broke open by the couple to enter the house,” the police said.

Rajahmundry: As many as 10 youngsters were arrested on the charges of chain snatching and theft in two separate cases and valuables worth Rs 4 lakh were seized from them.
DSPs N. Babji and K. Anil Kumar said here on Tuesday that a gang of seven men were involved in seven cases as they resorted to chain snatching and lifting of bikes. The police recovered 105 grams of gold valuables and two bikes from them.
The accused were identified as Pothala Swamy, Thanneeru Nanda Kishore whose father is a police head constable, K. Navin, G. Veerababu, B. Lakshmana Manikanta, M. Brahma Reddy and Vepada Anil Kumar.
Another gang of three youth including two brothers Katha Satish and Katha Sai Kumar, hailing from Netaji Nagar and Dasari Rajesh from Katheru. Nearly 30 grams of gold valuables and a bike were seized from them. As the youth were addicted to horse racing, betting and other social evils, they resorted to crime.
