Triumphant Racer, a team of 23 engineering students from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, Kharghar, launched their third racing car “tvaSka” on Wednesday. The indigenously designed car, created by students of the institute, will be heading for Germany on July 20 to compete against teams from all over the world in Formula Student Germany Competition, held at the Hockenheimring Circuit between July 30 and August 4.
According to Vikhyaat Shah, project manager, “tvaSka, the name itself means a ‘mixture of creativity and innovation’, which was built on an budget of `26 lakh. It took eight months to build the racing car and it is made up of steel and glass fiber, which weighs 308 kg. The fastest speed of the car is 100 kmph, and per litre it will run 120 km. The car was tested last week at Central Park.
There were about 23 engineering students from mechanical and instrumentation, who had taken an initiative and worked as a team to design, build and race an open-wheeled formula style race car that will compete in the annual Formula SAE competition.
From the design phase to the software, manufacturing and production process followed by the assembly of the product, we worked hard to turn our dreams into reality, and this year our motto is to be in the top 50.”
He added, “Last year, although we travelled to Germany, we were not able to compete at all the events, as our car got stuck in customs at the airport. This year, we are better prepared and have learnt from the others competitors, which we have applied this year to our cars and are also well aware of all the rules and regulations.”
M.Z. Sheikh, principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, said, “Our students have put in a lot of hard work and dedication. They are fully prepared, as they have worked round-the-clock with lots of innovative ideas and it is their passion and hardwork that has taken them to the Formula Students Germany competition.”
The team from Bhartiya Vidyapeeth is the second team from Mumbai to take part in the Formula Student Germany competition. The other team is from KJ Somaiya, which launched its Orion Racing Car last week.
