Kerala likely to hold CEE from 2014

Thiruvanathapuram: Kerala is among the few states that relied on NEET rank list for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate admissions. From next year onwards, the state government may conduct the Common Entrance Examinations for admissions to medical courses.
However, a final decision on the issue has not yet been taken. The private self-financing medical colleges can also go on with the present system of conducting examinations for admitting students to seats under them.
Commissioner for Entrance Examinations B.S. Mavoji told DC that the admissions to government quota seats would be from the NEET. There would be no change in the admission process this year, he said.
The Christian Medical College Management Federation Coordinator George Paul said that the question was not  whether admissions were  from the rank list prepared on the basis of the common entrance test or the rank list prepared by the private managements. The admissions should be free and fair. The common entrance test was violation of the Supreme Court judgement in the TMA Pai case, he said.
Medical council nod to 250 more MBBS seats

Kochi: Here’s good news for MBBS aspirants. A total of 250 more MBBS seats are being added to the state this year with the Medical Council of India granting letter of permission for the same in two medical colleges this month. These are in Manjeri Government Medical College and the DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences, Wayanad.
While the Manjeri college has 100 seats, all government merit quota, the DM Institute has 150 seats, 50  percent of which the management has agreed to set apart as government quota. It is learnt that the paper work for allotment for the government quota seats by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations is underway now.
A senior official of DM college said that the infrastructure for the college is ready and the classes can start in August. Kerala University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr K. Mohandas said that after an inspection by the varsity team, the consent of affiliation has been given to the DM college and on production of letter of permission from the MCI, the university will grant provisional affiliation. Of the remaining 75 seats at the DM college, 30 seats will go to management merit category.
In this category, students will be taken on the basis of NEET ranklist with management quota fees. Of the remaining seats, 22  will be management privilege seats and 23 NRI seats, college senior administrator K.T. Devanand said.
